Ashes To Ashes, Marika Hedemyr

Space: will be revealed soon
Dates: 25 April, 2026
Schedule: 11-14h

Researchers claim to have finally found remnants of Theia, an ancient planet that collided with Earth and gave rise to the Moon. No other parts of this planet have been discovered in the solar system. A new theory suggests that fragments of Theia remain partially intact and buried beneath our feet.

Ashes to Ashes is a mixed reality walk about time, distance, presence, and the act of leaving. Guided by the planet Theia, you walk through a cemetery holding your mobile phone. Time is suspended and, through digital layers, you are led across the micro- and macrocosm in a story about interconnectedness and what we leave behind. The performance addresses questions of legacy (eftermäle), sustainability, and existence, transforming the cemetery into a space for contemporary art and reflection in a dignified and immersive way. Cutting-edge technology meets eternal questions in a sensory experience that, with both humor and seriousness, invites visitors to explore the site at their own pace.

The project combines the cemetery as a public space—an unexpected setting for art and culture—with the digital realm through mobile phones and augmented reality technology. The digital public space created by this performance becomes an innovative environment for the performing arts in new formats.

Project co-funded by the European Union through DIGITAL on STAGE.
